Retreat Centre Description
Whirlow Spirituality Centre at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit is an ecumenical Christian day retreat centre.
Managed by Whirlow Grange Ltd in partnership with All Saints, Ecclesall the centre has a small staff team, led by a Chaplain, and many dedicated volunteers and retreat leaders from a variety of Christian backgrounds.
Our aim is to provide a safe place that provides space and time for reflection with a welcome for all. Our hope is that those who come here can connect with God, with themselves and others who journey in faith. In addition to the Chapel there is a large spirituality library, a lounge with tea and coffee always available, accessible toilets and two summer houses (Poustinias) available to book as private space for prayer and reflection.
The Centre is usually staffed Monday-Thursday 09.00-12.30
Accommodation on Offer
With large south-facing windows overlooking a garden, the chapel seats 40 comfortably. The lovely acoustic is boosted by a high quality sound system, including a hearing loop. There is underfloor heating, an electric piano, large plasma screen and WiFi.
Our well-tended garden invites reflection and relaxation - we are a member of the Quiet Garden Movement. Our location, on the edge of Sheffield close to the Peak District, also means visitors can enjoy many easy-to-access walks in local woods and farmlands.
With comfortable seating and a small adjoining kitchen, the lounge looks out onto our patio garden. It houses the library, which visitors are welcome to use. There are more than 1,500 books on spirituality and related subjects available to borrow for up to 3 months.
There are two poustinias to hire; these spaces are designed for solo use, a one-to-one meeting, triad or small group. Use them as a hermitage, should you want to take time out alone, with God or to meet a spiritual accompanier.
